Popular Upgrades

Carnkset: Compact 50/34t to 44/28 +$200

  • Benefit: You'll be able to climb walls even with 80 pounds of gear.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: Shifting is slightly more finicky.

Fork: Steel fork to carbon fork +$300

  • Benefit: Fork is lighter by 100 grams. Fork has a smoother ride.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: Not as tough. Not as impact resistant.

Wheelset: Handbuilt Pacenti rims, Shimano XT hubs +$500

  • Benefit: Rolling weight is by far the most important weight consideration for any bike; these handbuilt wheels save about 200 grams. Extremely durable.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: None.

Tires: Kenda Juggernaut 4.8" to Vee Bulldozer 4.7" folding +$120

  • Benefit: Lighter weight, more supple ride.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: None.

Fenders: SKS Longboards +$50

  • Benefit: If you're doing a lot of wetpacking you may appreciate some coverage.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: Fenders don't like sticks, logs, and other debris. Not great for rough riding on singletrack.

Headset: Chris King +$80

  • Benefit: Chris King offer the toughest, longest lasting bearing systems available. Once installed you won't have to think about them for many adventures.
  • Considerations - other than the price increase: None.

Saddle: Gobi M5 +$60

  • Benefit: Plusher and more support for a happier behind; Very well made and durable.
